You went to bed on time. And slept for a full 8 hours. You feel like you are making nutritious food choices. So why are you still dragging yourself through the day, yawning between meetings, and wondering if this is just what life feels like now?

Let’s be clear: chronic exhaustion isn’t normal—even if it’s common. You deserve to feel rested, energized, and fully thriving in your body. And if you’re doing all the “right” things and still waking up tired, it’s time to go deeper.

At our clinic, we focus on women’s health through a whole-body lens, and fatigue is one of the most common concerns we see. Not just because you’re busy (though you probably are), but because your body might be trying to tell you something important.

Here are the Top 5 blood tests we recommend for women who are tired despite a full night’s sleep—and reasons why they matter.

1. Vitamin D — Your Sunshine Battery

Even in sunny seasons, low Vitamin D levels are shockingly common in women, especially where we live. This fat-soluble vitamin plays a vital role in energy production, immune

function, and mood regulation, so Vitamin D deficiency can be associated with fatigue and low mood.

2. Vitamin B12 — The Nervous System Powerhouse

B12 is crucial for red blood cell production and neurological function. Even mildly low B12 levels can cause brain fog, fatigue, and numbness or tingling—symptoms often misdiagnosed or overlooked in women.

That is why B12 may look “fine” on standard labs, but we look for optimal, not just normal.

It’s also worth noting that we guide some people to use B12 supplementation as part of their fatigue management strategy.

3. Iron Studies (including Ferritin + Transferrin Saturation) — Oxygen Delivery in Disguise

You can have normal hemoglobin and still have low iron stores. This is such a common conversation we have in clinic! Ferritin reflects your body’s iron reserves, while transferrin saturation helps assess how well your body is transporting iron.

Research has shown that iron supplementation in women with low ferritin but no anemia still significantly improved their fatigue levels.

Bottom line? You don’t have to be anemic to feel like you’ve run a marathon by 10 a.m.

4. High-Sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) — The Inflammation Clue

This test checks for low-grade, chronic inflammation that can quietly sap your energy. Inflammation impacts everything from mitochondrial function (your cellular energy engines) to how well you sleep and recover.

Although inflammation can contribute to fatigue, we aren’t totally clear on how or why. Likely other common contributors of fatigue are part of the picture as well, such as pain, depression, sleep disturbances, reduced physical activity, and nervous system dysfunction.

If you’re always tired but can’t find a reason why, this

test may be important to consider.

5. Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) — The Metabolism Master Regulator

Your thyroid controls your metabolism, temperature, and energy levels. Subtle changes in thyroid function—especially in the years around perimenopause—can leave you feeling tired, foggy, or low.

You’re Not Lazy. You’re Not Crazy. You’re Not Just “Getting Older.”

You’re a woman carrying a lot—and your body shouldn’t be an afterthought. These tests are just the start of how we investigate fatigue holistically; by listening to your story, digging deeper into your labs, and designing care that’s personalized and root-cause focused.

Because you deserve answers.
You deserve your energy back.
And you deserve to feel like yourself again.
