Well it is that time of year, COLD and FLU season. So, why not try to prevent it?!
- Drink your water. Keeping hydrated keeps your mucous membranes (one of your protective barriers) healthy and prevents bacteria and viruses from entering your body.
- Eat a whole foods diet, avoid sugar, and maximize on these immune boosting foods:
- Garlic and Onions (have anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties)
- Citrus fruits, dark leafy greens (great sources of Vitamin C, which is essential for maintaining healthy immune function).
- Run from the cold and flu. Well, not literally, but exercise does stimulate your immune system, so go for a walk, hike, or whatever else you enjoy. Aim for 150 minutes per week.
- Supplement with Vitamin D. Seek advice of your ND or MD for appropriate dosing for you and your family.
- Come see your neighborhood Naturopathic Doctor 😉 Certain herbs, homeopathic remedies, and supplements can be helpful at preventing and treating colds and flus.
