Laboratory Testing

Laboratory Testing

Herbal Medicine: the healing power of plants

To support our services and better assess your health concerns, Roots to Branches offers laboratory testing. Lab tests are provided through Rocky Mountain Analytical, ZRT, Meridian Valley, and Genova Diagnostics – all certified labs. Tests vary in cost and are in addition to appointment fees. Check with your insurance provider, as some offer coverage for lab testing if it is ordered by a Naturopathic Doctor and completed by a certified lab. Tests are completed using samples of blood, saliva, urine or a combination of the three.

The most commonly recommended tests are:

 Food Sensitivity Testing (+/- Candida):

Tired of trying to figure out what foods are making you feel unwell? Food sensitivities can cause a variety of symptoms, such as migraines, headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, bloating, indigestion, fatigue, weight gain, and eczema – just to name a few! This panel tests your IgG immune activity against 96 different foods. You may also be advised to investigate if candida overgrowth is the cause of your symptoms, which can easily be added to the food sensitivity testing.  Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis:

The Cadillac of gastrointestinal tests. A comprehensive investigation of your digestive tract, with detailed information on digestion, absorption, bacterial balance and yeast overgrowth.

 Hormone Testing

  • Female Panel: Hormonal imbalances can affect women of any age. If you are still menstruating, concerns such as PMS, fibrocystic breasts, fibroids, PCOS, acne and headaches, could result from hormone imbalances. For women in peri-menopause and menopause, investing your hormone levels can lead to more specific help for improving symptoms such as mood changes, brain fog, weight gain, disturbed sleep, changes in hair growth, vaginal dryness and night sweats. This panel covers a variety of important hormone players such as estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, and cortisol. For more information, download Female Hormone Profiles.
  • Thyroid Panel: Conventional medicine only tests for TSH when investigating thyroid health, but that is only part of the overall picture. We offer a complete profile, investigating TSH, free T3, free T4 and thyroid antibodies. There is also the option to add investigation of elements that are crucial to healthy thyroid function such as iodine, bromine and selenium. This is an excellent panel for women, especially those suffering from mood and energy issues, and/or weight loss resistance.
  • Cortisol Testing for Adrenal Function: With the pace of today’s society and the number of us living in a high-stress environment, investigating cortisol (our stress hormone) function is more pertinent than ever. Normally, cortisol is highest in the morning, gradually tapering in the evening. Symptoms of cortisol imbalances include a tendency to catch colds, fatigue, low libido, blood sugar dysregulation, and more.

Specialty Profiles:

  • Weight Management Profile: A comprehensive profile looking at hormones, such as reproductive hormones and insulin activity, as well as Vitamin D. Many people will also include a thyroid panel for a broader picture as to why they experience resistance to weight loss despite their efforts.
  • Fertility Profile: A comprehensive hormonal profile for those looking to expand their family. Ideal for women with or without a history of infertility and/or miscarriage.
